Ring-Paxos: A High-Throughput Atomic Broadcast Protocol

Google Tech Talk (more below) March 3, 2011 Presented by Prof. Fernando Pedone, University of Lugano. ABSTRACT Atomic broadcast is an important communication primitive often used to implement state-machine replication. Despite the large number of atomic broadcast algorithms proposed in the literature, few works have discussed how to turn these algorithms into efficient executable protocols. Our main contribution, Ring Paxos, is a protocol derived from Paxos. Ring Paxos inherits the reliability of Paxos and can be implemented very efficiently. We report a detailed performance analysis of Ring Paxos and compare it to other atomic broadcast protocols. Ring Paxos can deliver nearly 1 Gbps of data to tens of servers in a local-area network. Ring Paxos is available as open source.

“Red Hill Mining Town” is a song by the rock band U2. It is the sixth track from their 1987 album, The Joshua Tree.In 1984, the National Union of Mineworkers led a strike in response to the National Coal Board’s campaign to close uneconomic mines. The dispute was one of the most divisive and bitter in British history and its effect on families and communities was severe. In 1984, Bob Dylan played at Slane Castle in Dublin. U2 singer Bono interviewed him for Hot Press magazine and Dylan invited Bono to sing on stage with him. The meeting confirmed for Bono, whose “record collection started in 1976″, how much he still had to learn about the traditions of singing, songwriting, and musicianship.[1] A friendship developed between Bono and Dylan with Bono delving into Dylan’s back catalogue and retracing the connections between Irish and American folk music. He was also listening to the blue-collar labour songs of Bruce Springsteen. U2′s growing awareness of folk traditions was reflected in their performance at a 25th anniversary tribute on the Late Late Show to folk veterans The Dubliners. U2 performed Luke Kelly’s “Springhill Mining Disaster” which tells the story of a mining disaster in Nova Scotia.During recording, Bono was displeased with an early vocal take and wondered why his voice made him sound “like a rich man with pound notes stuffed in his pockets when it’s a song about unemployment”. www.khmerarticle.com PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) – A famous Chinese action movie star Jet Li (Chinese name: Li Lianjie), and American movie actress Angelina Jolie are expected to be included in a new movie to be produced in Cambodia. In a press conference held on Wednesday in Phnom Penh, Thomas Magyar, a project manager for the planned movie, and Tony Schiena, a project coordinator and a Hollywood star said the film they had planned to produce will be named as “Great Khmer Empire.” They said the film might cost approximately 70 million US dollars and it will need about three years to make it, saying the large time span will be caused by the consultations with Cambodian government and historians on accuracy of the history as well as the script writing. Both Tony Schiena and Thomas Magyar said, to date, they are looking at several famous movies stars such as Jet Li, Chinese action star, Angelina Jolie, an American movie actress, John Cena, world’s famous wrester and South Korean movie actress Song Hye Kyo among others. The movie will focus on history of Cambodia, especially, during the glorious period in 11th and 12th century under the King Jayavarman the VII, who until today, considered as the great King of Cambodia and who finished up the building of Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia.
